ramblings on the amusing process of homeownership

The photographic journal of the place we call home-sweet-home.

HOME SWEET HOME...
My realator (an amazing woman named Jennifer) observed that I fell in love with it because of the cloudy sky in this picture. She might be right.

.

THE BASEMENT...
The basement, as it came to us. Minus the TV. You can't see it, but the shades are a vibrant blood red. And yes, that is carpeting going half way up that wall. This picture does not show the sorry state of the industrial carpeting, though. Or the halfassed do-it-yourself shelving in the closets. This room is currently full of boxes that we have yet to unpack, which is a mixed blessing. On one hand, we can scarcely get in the room. On the other, we don't have to look at the carpet...

THE DINING, LIVING ROOM, AND ENTRY...
If you've heard me discourse about the house at all, you've probably heard about the eagles. Well - here's proof. Those bright specks of light are the flash glinting off some of the glitter - though not very much of it showed up in the pictures. The big mural was along the long wall of the living room; the tall tree with the eagles was directly to the left of the door in the entryway. In the picture of the dining room, please note the section of fence screwed into the wall. And the vertical blinds. And the color of the walls - which, I assure you, was much worse in person. We did not get the table, chairs, or TV. The chairs are also blood-red, which you can't tell from here.

THE LIVINGROOM & ENTRYWAY... NOW....
We repainted the whole living/dining/entry area to a pretty shade of grey and replaced the vertical blinds with some deep blue tab-top curtains. The bookshelves are on the wall that used to have the mural of the pine trees. As you can see, we haven't quite gotten the books organized yet. The tie curtain is over that annoying little window next to the door. I didn't feel like sewing anything up, so....

THE KITCHEN...
This photo doesn't show that the doors on the cabinets are hung crooked - or reveal the fact that because the counter hangs out so far, you can't actually get anything in the camera-side drawers. The lenoleum is more blue (closer to the shade of the walls) than this shows... and for lenoleum, is actually quite nice. Many people mistake it for tile. It does pretty well depcit the zombie-flesh beige of the walls, except it doesn't show off the mottled look witht he veins of turqoise (matching the living room and basement at the time of purchase). As you can see, it's been repainted & we've added a few personal touches. The big piece of cardboard on the top of the fridge is to keep the kittens from jumping up there and knocking over the booze bottles.

THE BATHROOM...
This we left the wedding-mint-turqouise it had been painted... partly because I hate painting bathrooms, and I REALLY didn't want to have to re-paint all the woodwork as well. So we've gone with a brightly-colored fish theme. It seems to work. I did rip down the white wicker cabinet-thingie. Unfortunately the uglyass silk plant that had been atop it is not in the picture, and is long-gone by now.

And now, because I find it very hard to call a house a home when all the residents have two feet....

Scathach (pronounced sky-a -- Gaelic for "Shadowy One") is the grey kitten. He is a fierce, fearless, and tenacious warrior - and is quite opinionated. (And will follow you around until you've listened to all of it.) He is named after the celtic warrior woman who trained Cuchulainn. Yes, I realize I just named a boy cat after a woman. We're not genderist in this household.

Pushkin is the striped-kitty. He is named after the greatest of the Russian Romantic poets and has earned his name well. He is quite the lover and is never so happy as when he can be sprawled out and sleeping on someone's lap. He loves curry and garlic and has something of a foot fetish.

Both of these lovely furred beings were entrusted to us by our awesome friends-and-Fest-family Barb and Randy Everson and came to live with us on 11 September, 2006.
